Today our reading group were reading a journal story about the Christchurch earthquake. We tried to understand how the reader may have been feeling and all the problems they had to face after the earthquake.

Vocation Research R5

Ma’asi
WALT: identify our skills and strengths, research a vocation (job)

Step One: Skills and Vocations
What 5 skills have I identified in myself?
Typing skills, swimming, biking, running and spelling.

What 5 skills have my family identified in me?
Talented, helpful, honest, friendly and active.

What are 3 jobs that use these skills?
You may want to look at this link - Ideas for Vocations
Singer, athlete and artist

Vocation I have chosen:
 Singer

Step Two: Google Search
Use google search e.g.    ‘how to become a Singer
What I have found out about this vocation (job):
What training do I need?
It would help if I go to university to become a singer so I can get help from other singers.
What skills do I need for this job?
I need singing lessons to get better.
What duties would I need to complete each day?
A singer would be an artist or a performer who crafts a vocal song using various techniques. I would need to learn these techniques and practice. If I became professional I might be singing in bars, at concerts, in churches or maybe on TV.
Where could I be working?
In a studio.
Who would I be working with?
I would be working with a professional singer so I could have more practise to sing. I might sing with groups or by myself.
What hours would I be expected to work?
Some days I would work long hours, and some days my voice will need a rest.
Why I chose this vocation?
I chose this vocation because I am talented and my family says I could sing.

Step Three: Explanation and Statement

* When I am older, I would like to be a singer because I am very talented at singing and I dream of being a singer!
